Pilgrimage to Our Lady
of Sorrows Basilica & National Shrine

Muncie Catholic is planning a pastorate-wide, 1-day pilgrimage by chartered bus to the Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica & National Shrine on Friday, October 11, 2024. The Basilica is located at 3121 W. Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60612-2729. See representative pictures below. Some of the activities that our parishioners may be involved in at the Basilica include:
Attend Mass
Pray the Rosary
Pray the Novena in Honor of Our Sorrowful Mother
Tour the Basilica
Visit the Shrine of St. Peregrine
Visit the on-site monastery of the Order of Friar Servants of Mary
Attend a presentation by Father Falco on the history and glory of the Basilica, highlighting the architecture of the Basilica and the history of the Marian devotion
Participate in the cloister garden tour and visit the museum
Lunch can be catered at the Basilica
Tentative timeframe: Leave St. Mary Church area at 8:00 a.m. EDT, arrive at the Basilica by 11:00 CDT, leave the Basilica at 2:00 CDT, and back at St. Mary in Muncie by 6:30 EDT.
Father Paul Gins, the Illinois Associate State Chaplain, is the Servite priest who came to the Muncie Pastorate to lead the Novena in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother on May 4, 2024. Father Paul lives in the monastery on the Basilica grounds. Completed in 1902, Our Lady of Sorrows was the birthplace (1937) of the Novena in Honor of Our Sorrowful Mother, a service that once attracted more than 70,000 worshippers to this church every Friday.
Cost is $105 - includes charter bus transportation and lunch.
