Cardinal Awakening is a style of retreat that "awakens" one's heart and soul to the beauty of Christ's love and His Church. The weekend starts late in the afternoon on Friday, and concludes on Sunday afternoon. This year, our retreat was November 8th-10th, 2024.
Throughout the weekend, there is time for talks, sparking reflection and discussion; opportunities to experience grace in tangible ways; space for conversations and for relationships to grow; time to slow down and learn more about prayer; opportunities to experience peace; and activities that may spark anything from tears to laughter!

"If we desire authentic friendship with Christ, we must spend time with him. A retreat is a wonderful, uninterrupted way of doing so" (1).
Setting aside intentional time to go on a retreat is powerfully important for our spiritual life. We give the gift of time back to God, give him space to renew our faith, and are given the opportunity to grow closer to him through his Church and through community.
Cardinal Awakening is a great first for someone who has not experienced a retreat before, or for someone who may not be Catholic. However, it still offers much for someone who is convicted in their faith. It provides time to grow, pray, reflect, and to be continually reminded of God's love and presence.
Cardinal Catholic offers very affordable retreats to Ball State students, especially compared to retreats post-grad. We still ask for a registration fee to help cover costs (meals, shirts, materials, etc.) for the weekend. However, finances should never be an obstacle for someone to encounter Christ and his Church. If you have never been on an Awakening Retreat, the first step is to sign up as a retreatant! It is a weekend that can work powerfully in hearts that are open to encountering the Lord!
If you have already attended an Awakening Retreat, we'd love for you to consider registering to be a staffer. Awakening retreats are designed so that after attending the retreat once, you can join with fellow staffers to provide a powerful experience for your peers. However, we still desire the weekend to be a renewing experience for you. There will be significant time for prayer and Adoration, talks, service, discussion and reflection, and reminders of the beauty of community.
