The Altar Server Ministry is open to all interested 3rd graders and older who wish to be trained as servers for Sunday, Holy Day, and special Masses. Altar servers assist the priest in the sanctuary throughout the Mass. They carry the processional cross, hold the Roman Missal, assist in setting the altar, and ring the bells at the consecration.
St. Pope John Paul II, gave a most fitting description about the importance of this role in the Sacred Liturgy.
“Your commitment to the altar is not only a duty, but a great honor, a genuine holy service. The altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. The altar server presents himself to a community and experiences firsthand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act. Therefore, in the liturgy, you are much more than simple "helpers of the parish priest." Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest. Thus, you, altar servers, are called in particular to be young friends of Jesus.”
Those that have received the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, are invited to join the Altar Server ministry.
The commitments of an altar server include the following:
Doing my best to fulfill my scheduled assignments as a minister at God’s table.
Making every effort to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before Mass is scheduled to begin.
Seeking out a substitute when I am unable to keep a scheduled assignment.
Regularly attending Sunday Mass
